Amy Winehouse

…gets caught doing drugs.

The Sun has new pictures and video of Amy Winehouse doing drugs in her house last Friday. Above is one of the photos from the video. I’ve never really followed her much. Up until about 3 or 4 months ago, I didn’t even know who she was. After hearing about this new drug video, I decided to youtube a couple interview and music videos of her. I must admit, I really like her! I never expected to say that because all I see are pictures like this:

So I was really surprised when I found her totally adorable, endearing and actually just really cool in all the interviews I watched. She’s just this sweet, shy, down to earth person. Then there’s her voice and wow. That voice. Such talent. Wow.
Suddenly I started to feel sad. Here is this normal, really cool, amazingly talented girl who just plain out isn’t herself right now. I’ve never known what it’s like to have an addiction like this, but watching the Amy of old and the Amy of now video comparisons, I think I now have a the slightest bit of a clue as to how griping and destroying addictions like that are.

I posted the one photo of the drug night just for a visual to this post, but I would rather not post the video, as that’s not really the purpose of this post. You can head over to The Sun to see it if you like. However, one quote from the article over there really struck me:

One said: “Someone has to turn her around, otherwise a great talent will disappear forever very soon.”

Geeze, that is so true. And hellooo, does it remind you of anyone else? Britney Spears, anyone? Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse and basically the same person right now. Maybe Britney isn’t doing hard core drugs like Amy is, but she is suffering in a different way from something that has just grabbed hold of her, torn her down and won’t let go. These two girls are two great talents that have influenced generations. How sad would it be to see them gone? I mean really…people joke about Britney’s obituary already being written up and all that. But does anyone really stop to think about what they’re saying and what is REALLY going on here? It’s tragic. It really is.
One thing I know for sure is the girl in the picture below is NOT the girl that I just watched all the interviews of.

Here she just looks like a rough and tumble kinda gal. Totally ready to rumble. With a bow on. This is not the same girl as this:

Just like the girl we see in the below picture:

Is not at all the same girl as this one:

People laugh at them in their weakened state. Heck, I laugh too. It’s hard not to sometimes, I’ll admit it. But the truth of it is that these two situations are truly tragic.
